The Christmas Tail of Sampson the Silly Looking Sock Monkey is a children’s book that is recommended for ages five and up. This oversized book is very colorful with lots of pictures. The story takes place on Christmas Eve while Sampson is under the Christmas tree with all the other presents.
All the presents tell why they are the best present. Sampson gets upset because he can not do all the great things the other presents can. Then the angel who was on top of the tree who has been listening gets involved in the conversation. She explains how she has heard this from the toys under the tree every year. She then goes on to explain that Christmas is not about which present is the best but is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. After she explains it the toys all get together and make a surprise for Sampson.
This story is a good way to help younger children understand why we celebrate Christmas. My son (who is almost 5) enjoyed the story so much that he had me read it to all our guests (even the adults). I like this book just the way it is. I would not change anything about it. If you know a child who likes to be read to or who needs to learn why we celebrate Christmas this is the book for you.
