When I talk to people about homeschooling, I try to keep the discussion positive. I focus on the benefits of home education and the wonderful blessing of having close relationships with my children. A hard-core public school advocate and I will generally part company with an agreement to disagree on the topic.

Once in a while, our homeschooling efforts are attacked, and we need to defend ourselves. This book is well-written, well-researched ammunition in the war of educational ideals.

Consumers of American public education have been sold a rotting turkey. Joel Turtel exposes layer after layer of decaying feathers on the rotten bird of public schools. If you have any doubt about your decision to homeschool, this book will give you complete reinforcement for your choice. If you are teetering on the decision to pull your kids out, this will push you over the edge.

Mr. Turtel gives a great history of literacy in America; exposes the anti-parent, anti-Judeo-Christian agenda; and talks about how schools hurt low-income and minority children. He lifts the veil on the widespread drugging of our children and the shocking exposure to sex education they are forced to endure. A full section is devoted to the economic reality of public education, and the picture is not pretty. Finally, the book closes with some information and resources on homeschooling.

Parents, always be prepared with an answer for the hope you have in homeschooling. This book will help you formulate your arguments and will strengthen your resolve.
