Once Upon a Family has some wonderfully adorable and easy-to-use memory-making materials! We reviewed the Loving Kindness Traditions folder. This could easily be put into a scrapbook to keep--it's that pretty and that neat! Upon opening this pretty folder, you are given simple memory-making ideas for sharing with the family. This one is about Valentines. The first suggestion for a tradition to start is a Love Cake. The folder includes the recipe card and the paper "heart lockets" that every family member writes down a message and puts a photo on, to display atop this special cake. (Neat idea!) There are also ideas for creating "love coupons" that encourage showing loving-kindness to another family member. (We loved this!) The last is a "Secret Valentine" tradition, when all family members' names are written on the provided "heart lockets" and drawn out of a hat. The following two weeks leading up to Valentine's Day (this could really be done anytime of year, too!), everyone does something nice every day for his or her "Secret Valentine"! On Valentine's Day everyone takes his heart locket, writes down three things he finds special about the person, and puts a photo inside--to display on your "Love Cake" after a special dinner! There is a special framed spot in the folder for a family photo and a place for special notes. This makes coming up with special holiday ideas a snap and lots of fun, and it even provides a special place to note and record these memories, which can then simply be put right into the family scrapbook! What could be easier?
The Our Unique Gifts folder is similar in style, with a different theme and more special tradition ideas. This folder comes with a Family Treasures Cake recipe card--a blank card for sharing a special family recipe, and a blank card for recording special family blessings and gifts and noting how they are celebrated. This folder includes the idea of creating a "family blessing jar"--you'll have to get this one to see this neat idea! This folder also gives great ideas for realizing how blessed we are and sharing that with our family members. Included are little paper tags in small envelopes on the last page of this folder ("folder" just doesn't do these justice--check out their website to really get a good idea of the look of these lovely products) on which to write something special about each family member.
Very unique and special ideas are given here for sharing and remembering family times and special things about one another. For a mom who has trouble creating scrapbook pages and getting memories recorded, these are WONDERFUL! I love Once Upon A Family!
