Policeman's Safety Hints is a foam core board book in the shape of a police officer. It measures 12 x 6 x 1 ½ inches. There are five two-page spreads of illustrated text describing how police help and protect us, what they do in a day's work, and what kind of vehicles and equipment they use. Some basic safety hints are included, such as knowing parents' phone numbers and being aware of "stranger danger." There is a little project on how to make an I.D. card.

The book is for ages 4-7. Since there is a reference and picture showing a police officer visiting the classroom, the book is probably geared to public school children, but any child who likes policemen and firemen would enjoy the book. Due to its size and shape, creative children could also use it as a doll or action figure in imaginative play. Even though the title uses the word policeman, the inside illustrations feature officers of both genders, so those parents concerned about sexism need not worry.

Policeman's Safety Hints would be a great book or gift for little children. Its main message is that policemen are our friends and are an important part of our community.
