Sleeping with Your Baby: A Parent's Guide to Cosleeping is an informative paperback with over 100 pages of information on safely cosleeping with your baby.
I recall with my first child, the nurses at the hospital and the basic childcare books I had read were adamant about not sleeping with baby in any way. Too dangerous, SIDS, suffocation . . . the list goes on. The basic message was it's bad for baby, and you could (would) potentially kill baby by engaging in this risky practice.
I didn't buy it then, and I don't now. Cultures for centuries have had families all sleeping in the same room, not to mention baby right at Mama's side! This aids in ease of breastfeeding for both Mama and baby and provides security for baby (and Mama too!). Now, I am not a die-hard cosleeper, and I want the sleep I do get to be restful. Therefore, when our children were about 4-6 months, they went to their own cribs, with occasional naps with Mom and Dad. That is what worked for our family. Yours may be different, and God makes us all unique. What works in one family may not work in another. I find this topic to be extremely personal, based on each individual family.
Sleeping with Your Baby: A Parent's Guide to Cosleeping encourages safe cosleeping, providing scientific research to back up the benefits of this practice and answering many questions. The book also covers the risks of unsafe bedsharing. Pictures give great visuals of ways NOT to cosleep with baby. This title also points out potential reasons for not cosleeping.
I found this title very interesting and informative, with lots of great information for folks interested in the family practice of cosleeping with baby.
