Tom Houck believes the Christian community needs to be different from the rest of the world. Sadly, he sees patterns of divorce and sexual impurities happening at almost the same rate in the Christian community as in the rest of the world. Of course, this makes sense when the world is working hard to bombard us with their sensual desires nearly everywhere we turn. What to do? Parenting for Purity will give you solid advice of what to do with children as young as preschool all the way up through single adulthood. The book is three-fold really. The first section gives reasons for the necessity of a parent to purposefully teach purity, how to divorce proof your children, and how to begin planting the idea of purity in a little one’s heart. The second section tells the parent about God's method for choosing a mate, and the final section is written for the parent and teen to read together. One of the author's main points is that he believes the Christian community is no different from the world in their statistics because of the unbiblical relationships that occur before marriage. He states very clearly that dating and the heart ties that accompany dating (even if no sexual boundaries are crossed but much more so if sexual boundaries are crossed) take away from the future spouse getting every single part of a husband or wife's heart. He goes on to explain that he believes young adults who focus on God rather than finding a mate will be blessed immensely when God opens their eyes to "the one." He explains how to maintain a brother-sister relationship with the opposite sex during those years when so many are dating from one person to another. Toward the end of the book, Mr. Houck even includes a chapter on being unequally yoked and how important it is to marry a Christian. The author wrote this book after being a singles pastor for years and seeing the need for biblical training on the subject of purity. He’s been passionate about this issue and studying God's Word on the subject. His passion and vast amount of knowledge shine through in the book.
