The book Easy Grammar Plus by Wanda C Phillips comes complete with student reproducible worksheets, reviews, tests, cumulative reviews, and cumulative tests. This program is tailored to work with Daily Grams, grade 7, which is a workbook complete with 180 daily reviews covering the material in the Easy Grammar Plus textbook. Each one-page daily gram reviews capitalization, punctuation, one or more parts of speech, and sentence combining. This easy-to-teach program can best be used in a homeschool setting with a student in junior high or high school. It is a "cut-and-dry" kind of program without "bells and whistles."
Easy Grammar Plus uses a prepositional approach to grammar. At the beginning of the year, the student must memorize more than fifty prepositions; then the student utilizes this information to delete the prepositions in the practice sentences. By eliminating the prepositions first, the student can more easily find the other parts of speech. Lessons are incremental with extensive review. At the end of each unit, a test is provided to ensure that the student really did learn the information in the unit.
The book is organized in the order recommended by the author, but as it states in the introduction, the teacher can organize the material as fits the student. In addition to prepositions, the program covers advanced capitalization, punctuation, nouns, adjectives, conjunctions, and many more things.
Easy Grammar Plus has been described by many teachers, myself included, as easy to teach and, for the student, easy to learn. This book is more like a teacher's guide than a student workbook. Each work page has the answer key right next to it for the child to see. To combat this, you could either copy off the page the student is to be working on or purchase the student workbook, which can be bought separately.
This book is the best grammar program I have come across, and I would highly recommend it.
