77 Creative Ways Kids Can Serve is a
book full of wonderful ideas on how to help your children
reach out to others. Each of the 77 ideas comes with
a short introduction, a list of supplies you will need,
and a list of steps you need to take to fulfill your
service project. Many of the service ideas also have
a fun fact or funny story included with them.
There are some very original ideas in this book, such
as starting a "Do Something" club in which you organize
volunteers to help out with a voted-upon project. There
are also many ideas that we have all heard of, such as
being part of Angel Tree at Christmas or recycling in
your own home. A homeschool family could use this book
to come up with ideas for serving in their community.
I enjoyed reading through this book, and it really made
me realize the importance of mobilizing my family into
service. It made me realize how necessary it is to teach
our children about serving those who are less fortunate
than we are.
While I was able to glean a few good ideas for my family
from this book, I was a little disappointed by the scarcity
of original ideas. I felt that in a book like this there
should have been more ideas that I had never heard of.
I would not recommend this book to homeschoolers simply
because you could easily come up with most of these ideas
on your own.
