When our oldest son was little we used to do craft projects all the time. There was the three-foot tall Mr. Heartman made out of newspaper and lots and lots of paint. Or the white t-shirts that he painted and decorated with handprints and footprints. And we can't forget the turkeys made out of handprints on construction paper. As our family has grown and life has gotten more hectic, I must confess we rarely do craft projects any more, which is a shame! That's why I asked to review The Little Hands Big Fun Craft Book by Judy Press. It just sounds like fun! The book includes more than 70 craft projects designed for children ages 2 through 6. Categories of crafts include such things as: Outdoor Fun, Family Fun, School Days, and Big Fun in Special Places, among others. There is also a great Around-the-World Celebrations chapter with 13 clever crafts from all over the world.

I was impressed with the wide variety of craft ideas in this book. Most of the crafts use common household items that we had available and are easy to complete. The instructions are clear and understandable even for young children. Each craft idea begins with a short poem related to that topic. There is a list of "Here's What You Need," followed by "Here's What You Do." Each craft has step-by-step instructions, with simple illustrations and colorful pictures showing the completed project. My favorite part, though, is the "More Big Fun!" section, which includes other ideas for related crafts and other things to think or talk about. For example, in the picture puzzle section, it says, "Sometimes when people are confused, they are said to be puzzled. Have you ever been puzzled about something?" The Around the World crafts section includes interesting information about the country being studied.

Crafts are such a fun way for kids to practice a variety of skills while having fun. I love the big smiles on the children's faces when they have finished their project. The Little Hands Big Fun Craft Book provides many creative ideas for easy craft projects that are fun to do and even educational. I look forward to many rainy day afternoons creating new masterpieces with my children from this wonderful book!
