This Project Pack from In the Hands of a Child is about Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf due to a childhood illness. Her teacher, Annie Sullivan, taught her how to communicate with sign language and how to read Braille. A famous play and later a movie were made about her story. This study explores her life and accomplishments; it is recommended for Grades 4-8. There are so many different ways you can use this study and adapt it to your own needs! The possibilities are endless.

The spiral-bound Teacher's Manual has 65 pages and includes 20 Activities for the lapbook. These activities include exploring Braille, experiencing sightlessness by using a blindfold, vocabulary, history, and making a timeline.

This manual gives step-by-step instructions and colored illustrations for creating your lapbook. All you need is file folders, colored paper, scissors, glue, markers, tape, and a stapler. In addition to all the wonderful information contained in the book, the authors give you a list of additional resources you can use in the study: websites with more information and books that you can look for in your local library.

This is a wonderful way to really dig deeper and increase your understanding of this amazing woman who had so much adversity to overcome. Watching the movie or reading a biography is great, but working through this study and making this lapbook will give you a much better picture of who Helen Keller really was. I recommend this study to all homeschoolers. It will make a valuable addition to any curriculum.
