Dolphin's First Day is a read-along audio book about a baby bottlenose dolphin's first day of life. After he takes his very first breaths, his mother and nanny show him the ropes of ocean life. Little Dolphin will learn to swim, hunt, play, and communicate, but will he know what to do when danger strikes?
Young children can follow along easily, as a chime will alert them to turn the page at the appropriate time. The CD provides not only narration but also the soothing sounds of the ocean and the life that teems within. The very last page of the book offers a glossary and several paragraphs of scientific facts about the bottlenose dolphin. My 4-year-old loves to listen over and over again, but my 7-year-old definitely feels that this book is too "babyish."
This beautifully and realistically illustrated 24-page paperback book is very reasonably priced at $4.99. (The website currently notes an updated version of Dolphins
First Day, which shows a page count of 32 and a price of $8.95.) Also on the website, you will find many more books that belong to the Oceanic Collection.
My 4-year-old daughter, who is an animal lover, especially liked this book, and it was a perfect addition to our current homeschool study of Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day.
