Homeschool Supermom--NOT! is a book that is written to encourage the homeschooling mom. However, it is not your typical homeschooling book. In this book Susan honestly and openly shares her not-so-super homeschooling moments as well as what she has learned from them over the years. Included in the book are family photos, family stories from 20 years worth of homeschooling, encouraging Bible verses, and comics that will make you laugh but also seem a little too familiar at times. As you read this book, you will not find examples of the perfect homeschooler that no one feels they can live up to. Instead you will find chapters with titles like "I'm German and I Have PMS (and other Excuses)," "Confessions of a Disorganized Homeschool Mom," and "Homeschooling Distractible Kids Who Don't Like School." At the end of each chapter there is also a Homework for the Soul section filled with Bible verses to read and encouragement to examine ourselves in the light of Scripture and to grow from our mistakes and failures.

Along with the book, you also receive Come to the Garden, a companion Bible study and prayer journal written by Susan's mother. The Bible study book has a lesson for each chapter in the book. In these chapters are Bible verses to look up, encouragement to examine your feelings and compare them with what the Bible says, and spaces to write down the things God has shown you through that lesson. I am really enjoying this book because the author shares honestly about her faults and failures. It is nice to see that there are other homeschool moms out there who do not have everything running smoothly 100% of the time and who actually do have bad days. But it is also so helpful to see that it is possible to learn from mistakes, and a bad day doesn't mean I have ruined my children.
