Big, chunky, board books are my favorite books for toddlers. They offer sturdy pages, simple text, and bright, colorful illustrations, and they're fun to read over and over again. Who's in the Garden by Phillis Gershator is all of the above!

Through simple, rhyming text, Phillis Gershator invites children to turn each page by revealing a new animal that's come to see how a beautiful garden grows. It's exciting for young children, especially between the ages of 1-4, to "peek" through all of the holes where the animals gambol about in the colorful garden.

Jill McDonald brings the garden to life with lively, vivid, scrapbook-like designs. Her artwork is interesting and busy, which keeps children's eyes poring over the pages. Beyond the text, you can engage your children in other activities, such as counting how many bees, flowers, or tomatoes are in the garden or asking them to point out different shapes and colors in the pictures on each page.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Who's in the Garden, especially since the "board book phase" will soon be coming to a close in our home as my youngest is almost 5. If you love board books and have young children, your collection just won't be complete without this delightful story!
