Lapbooking is one of our favorite schooling methods, so I was excited to have
the opportunity to review this lapbook kit from www.ajourneythroughlearning.com. This
kit is specifically designed to supplement the Galloping
the Globe unit study
from Geography Matters found at www.geomatters.com. There are two parts to the
lapbooking pack. Lapbook 1 covers Asia, Europe, and Christmas Around the World. Lapbook
2 includes The Poles, North America, South America, Africa, and Oceania. Each
part contains enough templates and instructions to fill a three-file-folder lapbook,
for a total of six file folders for the complete unit. All of the activities,
instructions, and assembly ideas are included. The homeschool family needs to
provide the file folders and items such as tape, scissors, and glue.
This lapbook is not a stand-alone curriculum. It is designed to be used with the Galloping
the Globe unit study. Some of the activities reference specific pages in the unit study. However, I think it would be possible (with a bit of modification) to use this lapbook to supplement other geography curricula.
Throughout the lapbook, students learn about the seven continents, key countries from each continent, and holidays. The study is geared towards K-5th graders but I believe it could be adjusted for older or younger students.
This lapbook pack is a real timesaver for homeschool teachers. All the minibooklets and other lapbooking activities are in one well-organized place, eliminating the need to spend time hunting up relevant printouts. The graphics are well done. Pictures and diagrams show how to assemble the lapbooks, which saves time and frustration in trying to figure out how to fit the items on the folders. This lapbook kit is a valuable companion to the Galloping
the Globe unit study.
