My Lesson Planner is a homeschool organizer from IOZion
Homeschool Resources. It is approximately 8.5" x 11" with
laminated front and back covers and plastic comb binding. The
cover features a simple house logo and the verse from Joshua 24:15--".
. . as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Inside,
before the weekly pages begin, is a page where the owner can write
identifying information and year-at-a-glance pages for both 2010-2011
and 2011-2012. There is a two-page spread for each week. Enough
pages are included for about 70 weeks. The left side is a
chart, 4 columns wide by 5 rows. Across the top is room to
label a child's name or a subject heading for each column. The
rows are labeled down the left side MTWTF. On the right side
of the spread is a MTWTF checklist, a grading chart, squares
to record Bible meditations, read-alouds, project ideas, and resource
helps. There is also a large section labeled "Mama's Journal" with
several lines for recording special moments and thoughts. The lower
right corner varies from page to page. Some pages include
verses here; others have a quote, poem, puzzle, cute picture, or
a blank box for a special sketch or note. The back of the
book holds grading charts, charts for recording read-alouds, a
four-year plan for high school, assignment check-off sheets, chore
planners, and menu planners.
Planners are extremely personal items, and what works fabulously
for one family may not be right for another. I don't see this
planner working for my needs, but it may be exactly right for someone
else's situation. There are many things I do like about the
planner. The pages lay nicely flat when opened. I enjoyed
the verses, quotes, and poems scattered throughout. I like
that it is intended to be kept as a keepsake after the year is
finished. It would be easy to jot down a quick journal entry since
the space for that is provided right in the planner. The menu planners
are helpful to me too. However, the squares in the actual
scheduling area are too small to be practical for my homeschool. Also,
all the boxes of "extras" are distracting and overwhelming to me. I
need to mention that the company offers personalized planners,
and perhaps some of the issues that are problematic to me could
be addressed if I ordered a customized planner.
