This kit is a delightful packet of goodies to take along on a
long road trip with your children. If you have a minivan with a
DVD player in it like we do, it's all the better. The kids can
enjoy the songs and stories with their headphones while the adults
have grownup conversation. Or you can play the songs over the speaker
system so that the whole family can sing along. There is also a
little book of activities that the kids can enjoy for a change
of pace.
Included in the kit are two DVDs with 15 read-along/sing-along
stories between the two of them. Each one is like an animated picture
book, with words at the bottom so you can follow along. Also included
is a CD with 13 songs, an activity booklet, four crayons (yellow,
green, blue, and red), and travel tips for parents. Some of the
songs/stories are old favorites, such as "The Wheels on the Bus," "Frog
Went A-Courtin'," and "This Land Is Your Land." Others are less
familiar stories, such as "The Chinese Violin," "All the Colors
of the Earth," and "Keeping House." My favorite, by far, was "Dem
Bones." It is a cute song, and one of the lines in it is, "Hear
the Word of the Lord." I'm very impressed with Scholastic for including
this on the DVD.
The back of the box says "approx. 2 hrs. 12 mins. + extras--Recommended
for ages 3-8." I can attest that this product will provide many
hours of enjoyment for your kids, and you will find yourself and
the older kids singing along too. The list price is $24.95, which
is very reasonable for 2 DVDS, a CD, and extras. I can recommend
this for the next time you travel or even to entertain the kids
when you get in the car to go across town.
