The Creation Series - Eight Book Set ($19.99) is a pre-reader
collection that can be part of a child's first "early reader" library.
Carol Leah, an educator in Great Britain, felt called to write
this series so that children could learn about God while developing
their early reading skills. She achieves her goal by drawing from
the Good News Translation in Today's English Version of the Bible
along with her own child-friendly text.
Each book in the series reminds parents that the books are designed
to be read to children ages 3 to 4. There are brief instructions
at the beginning of each book with suggestions for getting the
most out of the books. The instructions are the same for all of
the books, and they provide good suggestions for parents reading
aloud to young children.
The books are beautifully illustrated by Sharon Rentta. The first,
an overview of Creation week, introduces the reader to three children,
Joy, Daniel, and Todd. The second and remaining books each cover
a different part of the Creation, tying it to things children experience
every day. Each book has a brief introduction pointing out some
feature of the book. In the first book, children are encouraged
to find at least ten snails; in the second, eight black stones,
and so forth.
Being published in the UK, this series has few terms and visuals
that might be unfamiliar to children in North America, such as
the references to mothers as "mums." The book is available through
the publisher's North American distributer, STL North America.
