I love to cook! I like to save money by stocking up on staples when they go on sale. I want to use items I already have in my pantry or freezer whenever possible when planning meals. I enjoy trying out new recipes. I actually relish reading cookbooks and learning new tips, tricks, and easy ideas to improve my efficiency in the kitchen or ways to prepare healthier meals for my family.

You will notice
that the author does not include pork recipes, as her family
does not eat pork. And although she does include a few crock
pot recipes, there aren't many. I thought, however,
that her 'No Meat' section included some great recipes for moms
who are trying to provide tasty meals, yet cut back on the more
costly 'meat' ingredient.
I especially liked the Tortilla Pockets! Another favorite recipe (from
the Chicken Section) is Fiesta Salad, which utilizes fried tortilla strips
atop a yummy Mexican style salad.
The main idea behind this E-book is to encourage readers to plan menus
and meals around what's already stocked in the pantry and freezer, and
thus, buying fresh ingredients as needed. Mrs. Johnson has even color-coded
the recipes to reflect this principle: red text for the names of staples
and ingredients that have been stockpiled (preferably when they are on
sale), blue text for ingredients from the freezer, and green text for foods
that are fresh.
The recipes are very visual, and it's amazing to 'see' of all the possibilities and opportunities a mom has to use what's already on hand to feed her family nutritious meals. Many of the 'blue' ingredients
are things that can also be bought ahead of time, processed, and stored
in the freezer such as bell peppers, onions, pureed vegetables, meat, etc.

Overall, I found Cooking From Your Cupboard to be a very good cookbook,
and I can't wait to try out all thirty recipes on my family. I have a feeling that most, if not all, the dishes will pass with flying 'colors'!
