BiLingo Kidz is one of the most user-friendly Spanish
language programs I have found. It is broken into four sections
to teach about the culture of different parts of Latin America:
El Salvador, Colombia, Mexico, and Chile. Different native speakers
provide the pronunciation so that children can mimic their speech.
Each part has stories, quizzes, a list of vocabulary words with
matching pictures, and a game. The software is easy to navigate
and has colorful illustrations that are pleasing to children. The
makers of this software recommend it for ages 7-14. An interesting
part of the vocabulary section is that there is a clip of a person
signing the word (using American Sign Language) in the corner of
the page when you click each word. You also hear a native speaker
say the word. I think this is unique and also very helpful. What
a bonus!
I have been searching for just the right program to teach my granddaughters
Spanish. I believe I have found it. I intend to use this program
in conjunction with another program. I think they will supplement
each other well and provide two different angles of approach. The
only reason I want another program as well is that this one is
all on the computer and I like to use worksheets when I teach.
So another program will give me the addition of a workbook or worksheets.
I myself have been able to review the spoken part of the language
using this resource. I can read Spanish better than I speak it,
and I have enjoyed this opportunity to brush up on my skills. This
is one of the best programs I have found so far, and it is well
worth looking into if you intend to teach Spanish to your homeschooled
child.
