The Many Mini Snowmen Wool Felting Kit came with several balls
of roving, two felting needles, a knee high, and a baggie of various
novelty yarns that could be felted into the project. There was
one sheet of instructions with different methods of felting as
well as a step-by-step guide to making the snowmen using the kit. I used this kit with my 4-year-old, almost 7-year-old, and 8 1/2-year-old
children. The 4-year-old needed lots of help; she told me what
to do, and I did it for her. The older two were pretty capable
of maneuvering the needle and making their own snowmen. Only one
finger-pricking incident happened during our project, and that
was by the oldest child. In order to help them with felting their
balls together, I gave each child a cutting board to put under
their felt balls so that they didn't need to worry about stabbing
the table or holding the balls in their hand.
When I first opened the package, I didn't realize there were two
felting needles included because they were taped to a half paper.
Since I did not see a packing sheet in my package, I was unaware
of the needles and could have easily poked myself. The needles
were two different sizes for slightly different purposes, but once
they were removed from the paper and used by my children, I no
longer knew which was which. I would have appreciated a packing
list and clearly marked needles in protected packaging.
The alpaca wool included in this kit is super soft and was dyed
in beautiful colors. There was enough white to make three snowmen,
with three 2-inch felted balls each. The yarn choices included
were varied, and there was something to strike the fancy of all
of my kids. This was a nice kit that provided a fun hour and a
new experience for my children. After making our snowmen, I still
have roving in several colors as well as a collection of fibers
to make other projects with. We used this kit for an art experience,
but it could easily have been tied into several different unit
studies. At $13.95 plus shipping, this kit is a good value, and
I highly recommend it.
