In this adorable book, "one whole cow was calmly eating hay and
decided to act differently on this particular day." For the rest
of the book, "one whole cow" has a myriad of fractional adventures
with her various animal friends. Through a series of rhymes and
questions, children are led to discover the application of fractions
in the adventures of "one whole cow." This is a fun, entertaining,
and engaging way to discover fractions. The illustrations used
throughout the book are cute and provide visual reinforcement for
the fraction concepts taught in each adventure of the cow.
While reading the book all by itself would be fun and educational,
the answer key in the back provides instant answers to all of the
fraction questions posed within the story. In addition to that,
the website of the publisher offers an extensive Teacher Guide
that, when used with the book, would make the study extremely comprehensive.
This guide can be found at http://www.gale.cengage.com/pdf/TeachersGuides/FractionsAreFun.pdf .
I recommend this book to anyone whose child is struggling with
the concept of fractions, as a fun and non-threatening way to engage
them. I would also recommend this book for someone just beginning
to introduce fractions, as a preemptive strike against the frustration
that often does occur with children over fractions! Or, if you
just like reading cute math books for fun, this book is for you
too!
