This lively CD consists of 12 songs by a variety of different
artists in early rock-and-roll style. The CD is accompanied by
a book containing illustrations and explanations of each song.
Two of the songs were classics: a jazzed-up version of "Oh Susanna" and
a very lively version of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." One song that
fascinated me was "Willie and the Hand Jive." The booklet explains: "The
hand jive is a dance that was invented at a concert so crowded
there was no room to dance with your feet. It caught on and everybody
started dancing with their hands!" All 12 songs on the CD have
a great beat and inspire little ones to dance and twirl around
the room. My granddaughters loved the sound.
One interesting aspect of the booklet that comes with the CD is
that on several of the pages, a word, such as "boat," is shown
in several different languages: Bote, das Boot, Bateau.
My granddaughters are interested in different languages, and this
was interesting to them.
While this company and this CD are entirely secular in nature,
they are definitely appropriate for children of any age. I envision
this CD being a part of a music curriculum that introduces different
styles of music to children. This is an excellent resource for
introducing the rock-and-roll genre.
