Watch five award-winning stories come to life on Scholastic's
Storybook Treasures read-along DVD, The Boy Who Cried Wolf
and More Children's Fables. Quality animation, narration,
and background music make these timeless classics highly enjoyable
for children.
There are many DVDs in the Scholastic Storybook Treasures series,
but this particular film includes: "The Boy Who Cried Wolf," "Charlie
Needs a Cloak," "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi," "Seven Blind Mice," and "Stone
Soup." Three of these stories are brought to life with moving pictures.
All are enthusiastically narrated and pleasantly entertaining.
The DVD is approximately 74 minutes long, and there are additional
extra features, which consist of interviews with a couple of the
illustrators and discussion questions. The interviews combined
run for about 11 minutes. These interviews were interesting to
me and may interest older children, but younger children would
probably become bored. In the Discussion Question section, you
can play the story then discuss the provided questions with your
child. There are about 3 questions per story.
I could not find this particular DVD on Scholastic's website.
However, based on the other DVDs in the series, I assume the price
is the same--$11.96. I find this price very reasonable considering
just one children's book usually costs more than that.
I think this DVD is appropriate for kids between ages 3 and 8.
It provides great educational entertainment for my kindergartener
when she needs a break from her schoolwork. Given a choice, she'd
probably pick a favorite cartoon, but she'll gladly watch this
video when she is required to pick something more academic.
