Many legends abound about this patron saint of Ireland, but most
notably, Saint Patrick is known for his success in preaching the
gospel to the pagans of Ireland. His amazing story is told by Michael
J. McHugh in this engaging biography. The truth behind the legends
is an exciting tale of a Godly man and fearless missionary who
dedicated his life to serving God.
Far from being a dry biographical piece, the book is written in
story format and able to engage both young and old alike. It would
make an excellent read-aloud for families of all ages or an independent
read for 5th grade through adult.
The story opens in the year 460, when Patrick is already a Bishop,
and then shares Patrick's story from the beginning as he tells
his tale to a younger missionary in an effort to dispel the myths
already beginning to spread about his fascinating life. In addition
to Patrick's life story, from his birth in Rome to his kidnapping
by Celtic pirates, the book reveals the political and religious
atmosphere that make up the backdrop to the story. The gospel is
shared beautifully throughout the book in Patrick's own salvation
experience as well as his amazing missionary efforts.
The book's 140 thick, glossy pages also include many colorful
photographs, drawings, and maps to accompany the story. This comprehensive
and engaging history is very reasonably priced at only $9.99.
