Spencer Johnson, author of Who Moved My Cheese? has
put together a wonderful collection of biographies for children!
Each biography begins with the childhood story of famous people
and progresses to their accomplishments later in life. Included
are stories about Louis Pasteur, Harriet Tubman, Confucius, Helen
Keller, and Will Rogers. Each story exemplifies a character trait
that is highlighted and modeled for readers, including believing
in yourself, helping others, honesty, determination, and humor.
There are thought-provoking questions sprinkled throughout the
story to encourage discussion between parents and children as these
principles unfold in each tale. Stories end with a full-page biographical
sketch of each person, including the dates of their birth and death.
Some website references are provided for additional historical
information about each character too. The full-color illustrations
are absolutely beautiful on the thick, glossy, oversized pages!
We read through the entire book in one sitting, and our kids were
sad to reach the end of this delightful collection! These tales
are well worth reading and re-reading!
