Illustory is a kit for creating one's own book. The kit contains instructions, a story web planner, 2 cover pages, 18 book pages, an order form, 10 washable markers, a postage paid envelope, and information about completing the book online. The kit price of $21.95 includes one finished book with no return shipping fee. The finished book is a 7" x 9" hardcover. There are options for ordering additional copies of your book, making additions to your book, etc.

There are 12 pages in the finished book. A sample book was provided to me for review, and I can tell you it is a nice book that will make a nice keepsake. This kit is for age 3 and up, but my 12-year-old granddaughter took on the project. We have had so much fun with this project that it has taken a lot longer than we anticipated. We finally completed all the pages and are prepared to go online and send all the pages, but we are currently having some scanner issues, so it has not gone to print yet.

You can make your pictures right on the pages provided, or you can make them on your choice of papers and then scan them and insert them into the online pages and then type your words in at the same time. That is what we opted to do. You can even pick the color of your book cover. This has been an experience I would not have missed for the world.

Perhaps in lieu of a unit study next semester, you could make this your project for the quarter or the semester. What we thought would be a quick project turned into a much longer project; you could easily spread it over a quarter to really perfect the end product. So much learning has ensued, and we have covered Art and Language with this project. I highly recommend Illustory, and I feel it would be appropriate for any age child. In fact, we may use this for my 5-year-old granddaughter as well.
