Alphabet Matcher ($19.99), by Twisterz Toys, is a non-electric,
no batteries required, fun and educational toy for children ages
3 and up. It includes a cylinder that holds one letter ring and
five picture rings at a time. There are four different sets of
letter and picture rings, covering 24 letters (not including q
and x). One end of the cylinder screws off so the rings can be
easily switched out as needed. The idea is simple: line up the
letter ring with the arrow on the cylinder, and then line up each
of the picture rings with the picture that matches that letter.
For example, for the Violet Set, the letter "k" matches the pictures
for kiwi, kangaroo, key, kettle, and kite. The included instruction
sheet has some additional great ideas, such as mixing up the sets
and making groups of animals, food, shapes, etc., or making up
a story from the pictures.
I can see why Alphabet Matcher by Twisterz Toys was selected as
one of the 100 Best Children's Products for 2010 by Dr. Toy! The
concept is very simple but easy for children
to use immediately and successfully. My kids enjoyed matching the
pictures with the letters, although there were a few pictures that
they couldn't figure out, such as the vase (they thought it was
flowers), and the vulture (they thought it represented the word "bird").
We used a large zip lock bag to hold the letter and picture rings
that we weren't currently using, as it would be easy to lose some
along the way. It's nice that the product can be used at home or
on the go, and can be used in several different ways with a little
creativity. If your kids are learning their letters or phonics,
I recommend Alphabet Matcher as a great learning tool!
