This textbook is for ages 9-12 (Guided Reading
Level T). It covers the geology of the desert Southwest in the
United States. It is published by a secular press that espouses
the "billions and billions
of years" view of the earth's formation, so those of us who believe
in God's creation of the earth and a young earth will have to tread
carefully. Nevertheless, there is much to learn here, and it is
presented in an interesting and very visual style. There are experiments
and demonstrations to do, lots of nice illustrations, and very
instructive text. I am especially fond of the visual aspect of
it because many children are visual learners, and the more pictures
there are and hands-on activities, the better they are able to
absorb the material.
I was especially interested in this book because we are currently
living in this area of the country. We like to explore, and the
family goes camping frequently. This study will make what we are
seeing even more interesting because we will know more about the
rocks and formations.
This book is $15.95 softcover / $21.95 hardcover on Nomad Press's
website.
