I appreciate books that can show children a different part of
the world, a different culture, or a different lifestyle. This
book does all that. The "Irish Traveler" lifestyle is not one with
which I am familiar. I enjoyed becoming acquainted with the unique
joys and challenges of the character's family. The illustrations
are of an impressionistic style, as the story provides an impression
of a year in the life of one Traveler family as told from the perspective
of a young girl named Megan. The author includes a brief background
of Travelers and a Glossary of words.
My seven-year-old daughter loves traveling by car; I think she
will be intrigued by the idea of the Traveler lifestyle.
