The Crypto-Capers in the Case of the Missing Sock is
the first book in The Crypto-Capers series, and is a 103 page chapter
book. This series is written for upper elementary and middle school
students, and there are currently four books available.
The Crypto-Capers are a team of crime solving detectives. This
team is made up of Max and Mia Holmes, their friend Morris, and
their Granny Holmes. Each person on the team brings an individual
talent or skill to the team. The Crypto-Capers solve crimes by
solving cryptograms clues left behind by the criminals. The book
is interactive, allowing the reader to solve the cryptograms as
part of the story (there is an answer key in the back of the book
if the reader needs help).
In The Crypto-Capers in the Case of the Missing Sock,
Mr. Delacomb hires the Crypto-Capers to help find a stolen sock
that contained an expensive pair of sunglasses that Mr. Delacomb
had purchased for his wife's birthday. The Crypto-Capers travel
around following the clues until they have solved the crime.
This is a fun, engaging book with enjoyable characters. Instead
of just passively reading a story, the reader is challenged through
puzzles. This book would be enjoyed by many middle school students,
but I think a better audience is the upper elementary student.
If you have a child who likes to solve mysteries, check out the
Crypto-Capers series.
