Bring ancient history to life with Brandenburg's Christ-centered,
Web-Interactive unit studies! If your current history curriculum
lacks excitement, say goodbye to textbooks and open up doors to
endless learning possibilities by exploring history via the Internet.
The Ancient History Bundled Set includes a 30-day study of Ancient
Egypt, a 41-day study of Ancient Greece, a 92-day study of Ancient
Rome, The Cat of Bubastes illustrated novel, Beric
the Briton illustrated novel, Foxe's Book of Martyrs,
and The Martyr of the Catacombs: A Tale of Ancient Rome.
Each study is well organized and very user friendly. A daily lesson
plan chart is provided for the parent and child to print and have
on hand for easy reference. An outline of the study that includes
the purpose, preparation, materials, lesson divisions, and projects
is presented before the study begins. Daily lessons and assignments
are easy to follow, and the Web links contained within are conveniently
accessible. (A teacher's edition with notes and tips in red follows
the student's edition.) Quizzes and games are attached at the end
of each study. Also, students are encouraged to finish at least
one of the suggested projects and to write at least one essay.
Tips and guidelines for writing essays are included. Finally, literature
and video suggestions accompany the study to enhance the student's
educational experience.
Besides well-researched and organized information, there are many
other benefits to these unit studies. The cost is low--just $17.98
for the bundled set. Also, there are very few extra materials to
purchase in order to complete the course. Information stays current
because links to websites are updated twice a year. Learning is
enjoyable since students have access to interesting visuals, greater
depth of material, virtual tours, and more.
My children have never done Web-interactive studies before, but
I will tell you, after having reviewed this particular unit study,
I am extremely inclined to go this route in the future. My oldest,
a seventh grader, says he would prefer Internet studies to books
any day. Having only one computer is my only concern. I can see
how it would be helpful to own more than one, especially if you
have multiple students completing subjects online.
There are three ways to purchase the Ancient History Unit Study.
You can download a pdf file by using PayPal, purchase the study
on CD, or call in your order. Studies are also available to purchase
individually. I personally found it very convenient and quick to
download all of the material right to my computer.
Overall, I would say this is an excellent ancient history curriculum
choice for middle school students and up. If students take the
time to complete the assignments at the end of each unit study,
the course could definitely last for an entire school year. I am
very impressed with the quality and recommend that parents give
Brandenburg Unit Studies a try.
