The Daily Dog: Bundled Set is a collection of 20 mini-unit lessons,
featuring a new breed in each lesson. Included in each mini-unit
are a lesson, worksheet, lined writing pages, a coloring page,
and an activity. Some activities are online, while others are included
as a printout. Links are also included, for those who want to make
a lap book or notebook for their mini-units.
Each mini-unit starts with a few pages of information about the
specific breed highlighted in that lesson. The lessons are easy
to read. I read the lessons to my daughter while she followed along.
The worksheets list a few questions, with room for the student
to write the answers. We would find the answers in the lesson together,
and then she would write the answers down in the space provided.
The next few pages are lined writing pages, to be used however
the teacher wishes. I chose to have my 6.5-year-old daughter write
a story about each breed on these pages. The next page is usually
a coloring page, activity, or both. She enjoyed coloring the pictures
and doing the activities provided. I was even able to include my
3.5-year-old, who enjoyed listening to the lesson, doodling on
the provided writing pages, and coloring the pictures. The Daily
Dog: Bundled Set can be used with most ages. Older children will
be able to work independently. Younger children might need a little
assistance, but only on the beginning parts. This product is homeschool
friendly.
I enjoyed doing these mini-units with my daughter. We recently
got a puppy, and these mini-units helped reinforce what we learned
while our family was researching different breeds. It also opened
our eyes to other breeds. Since my daughter loves animals, it was
something she enjoyed doing every day. Aside from a few misspellings,
the information was accurate and interesting. I think the price
is reasonable. The mini-unit lessons can be adapted to fit different
homeschooling methods. I would recommend The Daily Dog: Bundled
Set and would consider buying it if it was not already in my possession.
I think it is a fun, interactive, and informational way to get
your young children interested in something new, and encourage
them to think and be creative.
