The book is divided into five sections: Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Technology and Engineering, and Science Fairs Success Secrets. Most of the experiments contain everyday household items. Some are quick to set up and finish, and others take several days to complete. The length of time needed is depicted with green, yellow, and red beakers in the table of conference.

Each science section contains a number of experiments with step by step illustrations, explanations, and extension suggestions. The section on science fairs explains how to construct a display, important components, and how to choose a topic. Unlike many science experiment books which claim to help with science fairs, this one doesn’t just give you an experiment to do. It stresses the importance of finding your own question and being creative.

This book would be ideal for any homeschooler or family interested in science. It would be especially useful to any family following a 4-year rotation, but given the breadth of topics, it would enhance any science study over the years. It would also be ideal for any family considering their state’s annual science fair.  The Time for Kids Big Book of Science Experiments is a valuable resource in my science collection, and I highly recommend it.
