Looking for an early dictionary? The Merriam-Webster's Primary Dictionary is a clear, colorful tool for beginners. If your child is in the 4-7 age range, perhaps they will enjoy this beautifully illustrated dictionary that reads more like an easy encyclopedia. With almost 1000 entries and 436 pages, the dictionary takes the child from acrobat to zigzag while giving them practical doses of alphabetizing, spelling, definitions, usage, jokes, and more. This is a thumb through for fun book. For instance, the "spoon" entry considers teaspoons, soupspoons, tablespoons and spoonfuls. With the cheery illustrations, this book is high interest enough that it could even be used during story time. The negative, as true with most reference materials, is those of us with a Biblical view of creation will find several inconsistencies with our belief.
