Have you heard about Rocket Readers, or seen them advertised or displayed at your local Christian bookstore? These are worth taking a good look at. Sometimes it's hard to find wholesome materials for our young readers to practice with. These are perfect. They are a series of Bible-based supplemental readers to learn the essential skills of beginning reading.
Rocket Readers are available in the following five levels: Pre-Level 1 for new readers, Level 1 for children who can sound out some words, Level 2 for children with basic phonics skills and knowledge of vowel combinations, Level 3 for children who know common endings and can recognize common sight words write a few sentences in response to a reading, and Level 5 for more fluent readers.
These little readers pack some powerful unique features. First, content is exclusively based on the Bible. Those of us who have read beginning readers from the library featuring public school scenarios and troubles with friendships will especially appreciate this. Second, there are activities inside each front cover to prepare the child for the reading, such as reinforcing blends, vowel combinations or sight words. Finally, on each back cover is a Faith Parenting Guide to help your child connect with what was just read. For example, in the Level 3 Creation book you and your child make a list of five ways to take care of God's world. A space in provided for the child to copy Genesis 1:10 as well.
These books are beautifully illustrated, thoughtfully presented and will provide not only reading practice but a chance to connect with your child over God's Word and His Truths. Powerful!
