G.A. Henty's books are famous throughout homeschool circles as masterpieces of historical fiction, and In Freedom's Cause is certainly no exception. This is an exciting account of the lives of William Wallace and Robert Bruce and the incredible influence they had upon Scotland and its history. Packed with excitement and beautiful, expressive language, it's no wonder why so many people love this book. All ages in my home were equally glued to the radio for this one.
So how could it get any better? Just add the voice of Jim Hodges. Listening to him narrate this book is wonderful. He brings a light, clear voice and a smooth, straightforward reading style. I like to think that when I read aloud to my children, I do a pretty good job. I try to give just the right pauses and voice inflections, to really show energy and emotion. But after listing to the tapes I had to admit, Jim Hodges does it even better. He also doesn't get distracted, tired, or interrupted, and no matter how many times you listen to the tape, he is still just as good! This audio recording of In Freedom's Cause is an excellent investment and one that I'm sure the whole family will appreciate.
