Want to encourage that budding homeschool writer of yours? You need to read one of the sweetest pieces of fiction around. “A Summer with the Moody’s” was written by Sarah Maxwell, the oldest daughter the Steve and Teri Maxwell (Managers of the Home). As she says in the Preface, their family (like yours and mine) had so much trouble finding godly reading material and while mentioning this to her grandmother, the wise lady suggested that they should write their own.
Thank you, Grandma! Your suggestion took root and blossomed into a great little adventure. Grandma even illustrated the book!
This is a story about a “typical” Christian family who, by helping an elderly neighbor, find out that through blessing some else, they receive blessings they never anticipated. There are all sorts of “ideas” that we can take away and use for our own families as well, such as a Family Night. Something my family also appreciated was that Sarah included a “Meet the Characters” section and a family “Background” page. After these pages are read, it’s off for a Summer with the Moody’s!
