The first time I heard the term - Amber Alert - I was shocked. How awful that we have to have such a safeguard in place! Yet, it is a reality of modern life.
We must take whatever precautions are available to keep our children safe. My Precious Kid is a business started by a homeschooling mom to help us.
Her Child Safety Pack is a small piece of peace of mind. Here is what it contains. There are wallet ID cards for the parents, containing space for a photo and thumbprint, along with parent contact information, date of birth, weight and height, phone numbers, emergency contacts and some basic health information, such as allergies and medical conditions.
There is a car seat ID card that can provide valuable information quickly in the event of an accident, a medical release card authorizing medical treatment for the child during the parent's absence, a DNA fingerprint kit (with complete instructions for taking samples), an ID bracelet and a shoe sticker.
A few years ago, a juvenile pervert tried to entice my two oldest children into his car. Fortunately, they ran away unharmed, but I shudder to think of the possibilities. And we live in a SAFE suburb where my husband is the Chief of Police!
