From the time I was very young, I wanted to learn Hebrew. After finding out that my mother's birth mother was Jewish, which, in turn, made me Jewish, the desire intensified. I tried doing some workbooks that were supposed to help you teach yourself, but honestly, they were just a waste of money. Then I found Easy Hebrew, which was an answer to prayer.
Easy Hebrew is a correspondence course (meaning you are not on your own in this!) written by Yaffa McPhearson, an Israeli "sabra" (native). She is also a Messianic Jew, meaning that she is a believer in Yeshua (Jesus). This program was designed specifically for the believer. Easy Hebrew is not a dry, boring workbook, but a spiritual exercise that results in learning Hebrew.
You learn both the Hebrew language and the Hebraic mindset behind the words and concepts. Passages of Scripture will finally become much more clear to you as you and your children study this program. Yaffa's method of teaching is very friendly. There are two phases to the program. The first phase contains four units, each having several lessons in them. Each lesson has a few concepts for you to study thoroughly. At the end of each lesson, you take a quiz, which you then mail back to Yaffa. She will grade it for you and send it back with comments. Along with workbooks, CDs are included so you can hear Yaffa speaking the sounds and words you are learning. They also contain additional teaching. I have to say that Yaffa's suggestions for studying are effective. Since she speaks many languages, she knows how to learn them quickly and painlessly. I was pleasantly surprised that I did very well on my first quiz (which was returned to me very quickly, I might add). Wow!
I actually learned Hebrew! This course is designed for high school students, adults, and very motivated junior high students. It is well worth the investment. Through Easy Hebrew, I have grown spiritually and am finally fulfilling my dream of learning to praise God in Hebrew.
