They say, "You never forget what you sing," and I have to agree. I cannot tell you how many television theme songs and commercials are permanently imprinted on my brain, much to my chagrin. So I try to monitor what my children listen to because I want them to have better things to sing than "The Love Boat" theme song when they are all grown up. Audio Memory songs are a staple in our homeschool. One of our favorites is the Grammar Songs kit. We listen to them mostly in the car, and I am amazed at how much my children and I have learned and memorized so effortlessly. The songs are sung in various styles by many different singers and cover verbs, nouns, sentences, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, direct objects, capitalization, apostrophes, commas, quotation marks, 72 Greek and Latin prefixes and suffixes, irregular verbs, and more. The complete kit contains a 68-page workbook including song lyrics and written exercises, a teacher's guide with answer key, and either a CD or cassette. My daughter remembers the songs when she encounters the topics in her formal grammar text, and even my five-year-old can be heard singing, "I'm a verb, verb, verb, I'm an action word..." as he goes about his play. These songs are an altogether fun, easy, and effective way to reinforce and remember basic English grammar.
