In the latest academic jargon word families, which we are all familiar with, are now called rimes. I mentioned this in another review for a book from this company called Let's Write Right, which is a handwriting program. This book, Rimes and More Rimes, is a companion book to that program, and it contains lists and lists of rimes, or word families. It is a resource book that can be used for poetry, or writing practice, or spelling lists. All the lists are cross referenced with the Let's Write Right book, for example, on the top of the page for the rime -am it says see unit 6, lesson 2. You can flip to unit 6, lesson 2 and add to any of the rimes listed there. The lists are very comprehensive and thorough. This enables you to use these words to teach more rimes, or word families, as you teach the writing portion. There are over 150 pages of rimes, or word families, in this book, and the possibilities are endless for their use. It is a great resource book, and together with the rest of AVKO's product line, will make a great spelling/reading/writing program. It is not necessary to have this book to use the rest of the AVKO books, but the cost is so homeschool friendly, that I recommend getting this book and using it along with the writing program.
