Finally! A mainstream publishing company that actually targets homeschoolers. Charlesbridge Publishing has an array of educational books for children as well as homeschool specific teaching plans to go with several of them. Our family reviewed something very unique – something mathematic (which I normally shy away from) that was actually humorous and enjoyable! It was the Math Adventures Collection which consists of fun, colorful reading books that teach both math and literature. The illustrations were hilarious and kept my whole family’s attention. You find yourself solving math problems because you want to, not because you have to. Circumference and the First Round Table, Circumference and the Dragon of Pi, A Place for Zero, Circumference and the Great Knight of Angleland…the list of books goes on. As you read these books, you find yourself learning (or recognizing/re-learning from when you were in school) math terms and formulas. My kids absolutely love these books!
Other items of interest about Charlesbridge Publishing: they have teaching seminars all over the country. See this page for details on coming out and learning how to make math and science fun for your homeschoolers: http://www.charlesbridge.com/school/seminars.htm
And you can always request a seminar in your area. This company is dedicated to teaching learning! Charlesbridge has the entire gamut covered from mainstream learning to enrichment to at risk (special needs) learning. Check out their colorful, funny resources. If your kids are like mine, they’ll love it!
